The four professional competences

Unbelievable how fast time pass by. We are already in term four and next thing I know I’m in the second year. This school year had a rough start although gratitude to my motivation I helped myself getting on the right track. In this last school year we received four major projects in which I’m going to inform you how they relate to my qualities. In the first term we received The Researcher, it’s a pity how the process went and how the class was given. With all these inconvenience I still manage to take to best out of it and complete this project with a positive result. It taught me the differences between desk- and field-research, how to make a productive questionnaire and the advantage of know how the work with the computer program, SPSS.

The Project Manager is the project that I enjoyed doing the most. I have learn all the legal and laws that comes when organising a big event or festival. By organising one, I could off experience all the paper work that comes with it. One of my tasks was the marketing department, which I truly enjoyed.  Thanks for the previous project, The Researcher; I could off find lots of information on the unfamiliar Dutch market in less time than normal. Here I got to show my creativity, research skills, planning skills and coordinating skills.

In the beginning of my Trend Watcher experience I felt like I didn’t relate to this profession. I couldn’t see myself doing that my whole career. However, as the weeks were passing by and I got to understand the subject better and experience it, I was starting to get to like the Trend Watcher role more and more. With The Concept Developer project I learned how to analyse the market and bring a new concept to it. I have to admit it, Renée von Weijrhother and I make an excellent team. She as the Group leader and I as the Secretary came up with a tremendous concept and were advised from the study coach to participate with INHolland Best Concept competition. Again my creativity was blooming.

Last but not least I experienced The Negotiator. As a spontaneous and outgoing person I took benefit from tactics and strategies I received in The Negotiator Skills class. I have to state that Music business isn’t really my thing. I enjoyed starting my own record company and negotiate in a formal manner. Since communication is an important aspect in my life I believe that that’s the key of me relating to this course.

Learning Goals

There’s no doubt that I still need to improve in different areas. But one thing is for sure that most of the goals I have put for myself I have successfully achieved. I’m definitely more patient then before, I take every one in consideration. My English skill has improved. I have to give myself credit for the increasing of reading I have made since the beginning of the school year. I’m still stuck with my concentration though. It’s not like it didn’t improve, because it did. It’s just I know I should do better. I did use some concentration techniques that helped me so far.

Knowledge about this education and the professional field

I know now that I can choose from 5 different entertainment industries. The degree programme of International Media & Entertainment Management will train me to become a coordinator or manager in the media, music and entertainment industry. It will not only teach me how to work with a range of different people, but also how to do so within the limits of available finance, resources and time. It covers themes such as copyright- and media law, marketing, communication, account and project management, negotiating and research, strategy, cross cultural management, and business and entertainment analysis and concepts.

In the beginning it wasn’t clear what I can expect with this study. I was just hoping for the best result. With each term it gets clearer what I can be capable of when I finish this education.

Motivation: Wishes and Ambitions

There are still many choices of career prospect on my list. I know for sure that I won’t be working in the Gaming industry. For the simple reason that I’m not a gamer not a computer person. If I have to choose now I will choose Event Management for the reason that it suite me the most and fulfils my wishes and ambitions. I will continue my education with an open mind; have a glance in every area until I find the one or ones that I will spend my life performing.

Study Career

I’m still not sure what I really want to do in the future. I do know I would like to organise Events and Festivals, on the other hand I really would like to produce my own successful Television program. Not forget mentioning that I would like to gain more experience in the Film industry. I see myself in PR, Marketing or even a work field in Area Manager. I will continue exploring my study and my possibilities and hopefully find the perfect suiting.
